Parliament on Wednesday observed a moment of silence to honour Ghanaian President John Atta Mills who died on Tuesday.
Asuman Kiyingi, the Acting Foreign Affairs Minister, said Uganda is deeply saddened by the news of the death of President Atta Mills at a Military hospital in the capital Accra.
He observed that Uganda will remember Mills as a committed Pan-Africanist who dedicated his life for his country and Africa at large. The minister noted that during his term of office Mills worked for the cordial relationship with Uganda. He assured Ghana of Uganda’s support during this difficult time.

Atta Mills, who became president in 2009, died of throat cancer at 37 Military Hospital in Accra, four days after celebrating his 68th birthday.
The late President had been a university professor for several years before joining politics and serving as vice president under former President Jerry Rawlings from 1997 to 2001. In 2000 and 2004 Mills stood unsuccessfully for the presidency as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.
On Tuesday evening, Mills’ vice president John Dramani Mahama was sworn in as president.
