Four more people have been arrested bringing to 9, the number of suspects arrested in connection to the Murder of a clan leader in Otuke during land clashes three weeks ago. The suspects include Luciano Opio, the Atirayon Parish chief, Faustino Ejano, Moses Omiat and and Lawrence Oluju. The suspects were picked up from Soroti on Sunday and transferred back to Lira Central Police station.
They are wanted in connection to the murder of Alfred Oluge, the deputy clan leader of Atek-Okwero-Wee clan in Otuke district. Oluge was beaten by a mob on July 14th ahead of a meeting convened by the Lango parliamentary group to resolve a dispute over 300 acres of land donated to President Yoweri Museveni to establish a livestock multiplication center.
He rushed a few hours after being rushed to hospital for treatment. Patrick Ekwire, Otuke District Criminal Investigations Officer says that the suspects have temporarily been charged with murder, adding that they will appear in court anytime.
On Thursday, Olilim Sub County LCIII chief George Kamara Oyang appeared in court over the same murder and was remanded to Lira Central Prison Other suspects facing the same crime include Francis Ojok, Eric Okello, Joseph Etengo and Alfred Opaka.
