Kabale district security committee intervened to end the student’s hunger strike at Kabale School of comprehensive nursing. The committee led by Cox Nyakairu, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner rushed to defuse the strike on Monday evening as entered day two.

On Sunday, students of Kabale School of comprehensive nursing announced a hunger strike to protest the poor quality meals offered by the school. The students rejected all the meals offered by the school forcing administrators of the school to flee into hiding. On Monday morning, the school went ahead and prepared breakfast for the students but they rejected it saying that, they wouldn’t take any meals until their grievances are addressed.

They also refused to attend any lectures prompting the school administration to call for the intervention of police and Resident District Commissioner. Bosco Arop, the Kabale District Police Commander convened a 2 hours long crisis meeting with the school administrators and student leaders. The district security committee members held another meeting with the visibly angry students, who accused the administration of failing in its responsibility.

Cox Nyaikairu, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner pleaded with the students to call off their strike saying the school administration had promised to address their grievances. He commended the students for being peaceful as they demanded for their rights. Nyakairu blasted the school administration of failing to communicate new changes as well feeding students on poor quality meals.
