The body of Ivan Musinguzi has been retrieved from River Nile today, a week after he drowned. Musinguzi was an exhibitor at the just concluded Jinja Agriculture Exhition held at the show ground.
It is suspected that an intoxicated Musinguzi lost his footing while he was trying to fetch drinking water from River Nile.
The deceased’s body was spotted floating by fishermen along the shoes of the Nile in Bukaya, Buikwe district, this afternoon. The fishermen immediately notified the police who retrieved the body.
Samson Lubega, South Eastern police spokesperson, says the police has been vigilant since Musinguzi drowned in the river, to prevent other deaths and also make sure the body of the deceased is got by the relatives.
Musinguzi was the son of Major (Rtd) Rujoga, a resident of Mupozo village in Kacinga parish in Rukukngiri district where the body has been taken for burial today.
Exhibitors at this year’s show ground have complained of power outages and insecurity due to poor organization.
Jimmy Kitaka, a manager of the agriculture show, was present to witness the handover of Ivan Musinguzi’s remains.
He says it was a great blow to the family, friends and the entire organizers of the agriculture show.
