Woman Drags Wobulenzi Police to Court Over Ugx 7.2m Rental Arrears

Police
Zubeda Mutwalib through her lawyers of M/S Ajungule and Company Advocates have filled the case at Luweero chief magistrate seeking for payment of the rental arrears amounting to 7.2 million shillings and interest for breach of tenancy agreement.
A woman has dragged Wobulenzi Police Station and the Attorney General to court for failure to pay rental arrears amounting to UGX 7.2m.

Zubeda Mutwalib, through her lawyers of M/S Ajungule and Company Advocates, has filed the case at Luweero Chief Magistrate’s court seeking payment of the rental arrears amounting to UGX 7.2m and interest for breach of tenancy agreement.

According to the civil suit.130/2012, Zubeda Mutwalib explains that in 2008, she rented her eight roomed building located at Wobulenzi-Bamunanika road to work as Wobulenzi Police Station and police was supposed to pay UGX 150,000 per month.

Zubeda Mutwalib claims that for last 48 months police have failed to pay a single coin for using her facility and they ignored all warnings about breaching the tenancy agreement.

She adds that failure to pay the arrears has greatly affected her family’s wellbeing because the building is a source of income for their survival. She now wants the court to compel the police force pay the rental arrears with interest of 20% per annum for general damages and vacate the building because they can’t settle rental obligations.

The Luweero Chief Magistrate has given the Attorney General 30 days to respond to the suit or else judgement will be passed in his absence.

The office of the Attorney General is yet to respond to charges but the District Police Commander Samuel Bamuzibire confirmed that they owe the arrears to Zubeda Mutwalib and says that the matter was forwarded to Kampala Central Police Station for action.

Wobulenzi Police station houses a cell for inmates, residence for police officers as well as offices.

Recently another landlord of Kiwoko Police Station in Nakaseke district, Clement Bisaso, also threatened to evict the station for failure to pay rental arrears amounting to UGX 56m that had accumulated over 49 months. The building has 53 rooms and police is supposed to pay UGX 1.5m but  have failed to do so.
