The Parliamentary Committee on Education and Sports has asked the National Council of Sports (NCS) to furnish them with the full list of Uganda’s contingent at the 2012 London Olympics.
The Members of Parliament also want information on the allowances each player and official is getting during the Games.
The Committee chaired by Mityana Woman MP Silvia Namabidde, was on today meeting members NCS as they are in the process of considering the ministerial policy statement for the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Kalungu West MP Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu asked NCS why Ugandan officials at the Olympics had received more money than the athletes. Namabidde asked that NCS provides them with a full list and the allowances.
NCS was represented by the board chairman Charles Egou Egwau, General Secretary Jasper Aligawesa and Chief Accountant Phillip Muwonge.
The Committee also asked the NCS members to provide them with an inventory on all the facilities they own, those they have lost to investors and those that are threatened. Ssewungu said it’s unfortunate several sports facilities are being sold.

Egou, a former MP for Kaberamaido in the 6th Parliament, said although NCS is trying hard to do their work within the set framework, they face several challenges including inadequate funding, staffing problems and lack of a sports policy. He said the 1964 Sports Act needs to be amended.
Egou also explained that initially NCS was in-charge of all sports stadiums in the country and in so doing they could raise some finances to handle their work load better, but added that since all those operations were decentralized, NCS cannot raise enough funds from other sources.

Nakayenzie Connie Galiwango, Mbale Woman MP, also questioned the members of NCS if they had a proper network to monitor talent at the grassroots.
Though grateful that they had been invited before a Parliamentary Committee for the first time, the NCS members were asked to make a proper report on the money they raise and how it’s spent. The legislators further asked NCS officials to prepare a paper on how they want the amendment of the sports Act to address.
