Former Kampala City mayor John Ssebaana Kizito has been dragged to the High court’s land division for failure to hand over a piece of land that he sold to a one Emmanuel Begumana Gumiziriza.
Begumana says that in October 2010 he entered into a sale agreement with Ssebaana for 4 hectares of land found at Gayaza in Wakiso district at 90 million shillings.
He says he paid 33 million shillings on condition that he pays the balance in 2 years and that also Ssebaana vacates the said land to enable the buyer develop it.
He adds that in mid November 2011, Ssebaana sought medical treatment in Brazil but did not notify Begumana to whom and where he should pay the remaining balance of 57 million shillings which made it difficult for him to clear the debt despite several attempts.
Begumana says in the same year, he started developing the said land but was stopped by a one Charles Lule, who claims ownership of the same land and to his shock; Ssebaana also supported Lule before the Local authorities as the rightful owner of the said land.
He now wants court to order Ssebaana, a former Democratic Party president and one-time presidential candidate, to refund 33 million shillings and also pay another 14 million shillings as monies he spent while grading the land. Court is yet to summon Ssebaana to file his defence.
