The General Secretary of the national Council of Sports (NCS), Jasper Aligawesa has told Parliament that there is no way Uganda should be dreaming of Olympic medals if the government is not investing in sports.
Aligawesa made the remarks on Tuesday while appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Sports chaired by Mityana Woman Member of Parliament Silvia Namabidde.
The NCS Secretary General said a lot can be said about sports in Uganda, but if little attention is given, then there is no miracle.

Surprisingly, Aligawesa told the Committee that the wrangling in sports in Uganda is healthy because these infightings have brought about leaders with solutions to some of the problems.
When asked to explain the taking over of Lugogo Tennis Club by a private firm at the expense of the tennis association, Aligawesa quickly told the MPs that the Uganda Lawn Tennis Association (ULTA) has been reluctant to sign the tripartite agreement which would also see them get some percentage from the investor running the facility.
Asked to explain the little funding to NCS, Aligawesa said the current 1.62 billion shillings per year from the Ministry of Finance through the Ministry of Education and Sports is small, adding that that their ideal budget is 10 billion shillings.

Uganda sent 16 athletes to the 2012 London Olympics currently underway.
