There is tension in Ibanda district after one person died of Ebola-like symptoms at Ibanda hospital.
According the district medical officer, Dr. Julius Bamwine, Kombozi Jamada, a 24 year old fisherman from Kahinja landing site on Lake George, was admitted at Ibanda hospital on Tuesday with signs of Ebola and he died on Wednesday morning.
Dr Bamwine says Kombozi was vomiting blood, had diarrhoea and high fever.
Dr. Bamwine says that the body of the deceased has been wrapped in a polythene bag to avoid further spread and was taken for burial at Kahinja in Mahyoro sub county, Kamwenge district.
Dr. Bamwine, however, says it is too early to conclude that Kombozi died of Ebola, adding that blood samples from the deceased have been taken to Entebbe Virus Research Institute for examination.
Doctors from Ibanda hospital have created an isolation centre for patients suspected to have contracted the disease.
The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization on Saturday confirmed that the Ebola virus has killed at least 14 people including twelve family members in Kibaale district. This followed Laboratory investigations done at the Uganda Virus Research Institute which confirmed the disease. Two more people have since been confirmed dead in Kibaale.
The Ministry of Health further said on Monday this week that it was investigating 34 people believed to have come in contact with persons infected with Ebola disease in both Kibaale and Kampala districts.
This was after Health Minister Christine Ondoa confirmed that one clinical officer died at Mulago national referral hospital on Saturday last week. The death of the clinical officer sparked off queries over the safety of the medical officers at Mulago who had handled her case.
