70 students were on Friday expelled from Kabale Brainstorm High school following clashes between students and the teachers over night roll calls.

The students, all of them male, say that there was a power outage at the school around 9:00pm on Thursday, July 2, and some students started shouting prompting the teachers to storm the dormitories with canes.

Students URN spoke to claim that the teachers started caning them indiscriminately. The students say that the scuffle lasted for about thirty minutes and that the schools night guards joined the scuffle that saw many students and some teachers injured. The most seriously injured student with a swollen arm, Jackson Ahimbisibwe, is among the expelled.

The students say that they never intended to fight with the teachers but were angered by the way teachers stormed their hostels and started beating them, including even those who were not even aware of what was taking place. When the teachers stormed the dormitories, some of the students reportedly started running away while others tried to defend themselves.

A student who only identified himself as Alex says that the teachers started claiming that they had gone to the dormitories to check on the students saying that some of them would escape at night and go to Kabale town .

He revealed that after the struggle between the two groups, the teachers turned their anger on to the students who had fled and reported them to the school’s administration as having left the school’s premises without permission.

On Friday, a group of 70 students were expelled from school for indiscipline. 40 of those expelled were in senior three, 25 in senior two and 15 in senior one.

However Habasa Erasmus, the director Kabale Brainstorm High school, says that the teachers did not storm the dormitories with canes but instead had gone to do a roll call of the students in the dormitories.

He said that they had been reliably informed that a big group of students had escaped from school to Kabale town.

He said that those who claim to have been injured in the scuffle between teachers and the students must have been injured in Kabale town where they had escaped to.

He further revealed that the students are trying to use all sorts of excuses to cover up their wrong deeds when in actual sense they were caught out of school without permission.
