Two unidentified gunmen have robbed 70 million shillings belonging to Christopher Dau, a businessman in Lira town. The money was allegedly robbed from his driver Richard Odongo along Bala road at gunpoint this morning when he was taking it to Stanbic Bank. Denis Odongo, a boda boda motorist, an eye witness says that he saw a white IPSUM vehicle overtake a blue RAV 4 registration vehicle number UAN 771Y.
He says that after overtaking the RAV4 vehicle two unidentified gunmen pulled out of the car and smashed the windscreen of the IPSUM vehicle. He says that the gunmen pulled out a black polythene bag and drove off. Moses Okello, another cyclist says that he saw two armed men exchange bitterly with Odongo before they removed the Polythene bag from a vehicle he was driving. He says that the thugs then drove off to Oyite Ojok lane, which connected to Lira-Soroti highway.
Robert Ssemata, Lira District Police Commander says that they have arrested Odongo to help with investigations into the robbery. He says that they are yet to verify the information that the thugs who took the money were armed, adding that they followed the suspects up to Amach trading center 12 Km along the Lira-Soroti Highway. Christopher Dau is the director Aweki wholesale shop in Lira town.
