Forum for Democratic Change—FDC supporters in Fort Portal have stormed Fort Portal police station demanding for the release of the party supporters who were arrested this morning from Kasese.

The 42 supporters were arrested in Kasese and brought to Fort Portal.

The angry FDC supporters were led by Joram Bintamanya, the South Division district Councilor and Nyakato Rusoke, the deputy FDC women league chairperson in-charge western Uganda.

Bintamanya led a group of more than 50 Boda Boda cyclists to the police station, but they were dispersed by the anti-riot police.

Rusoke said that the police should explain why the supporters were brought to Fort Portal and yet they were arrested from Kasese. She claims that the police want some of the supporters from Kasese not to vote in tomorrow’s elections.

Voters in Kasese go to the polls tomorrow to elect a Woman Member of Parliament. FDC’s Winfred Kiiza and Rehema Muhindo of NRM are the main contenders for the seat.

Rusoke also claims that some of the FDC supporters from Kasese were also arrested and taken to Bundibugyo police station. However URN couldn’t verify these reports.

Cecila Ogwal, the Dokolo Woman MP today visited the police station to speak to the suspects, but she was denied access by the police.

At the time of filing this report, the police was still screening the suspects and there are reports that they may appear in court on charges of inciting violence.
