Uganda’s national aviation regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority has stopped aviation institutions in the country from carrying out any training until they meet the required standards.

Vianey Luja, the CAA assistant public affairs manager confirmed to URN that trainings at both Kampala Aeroclub and the East African Civil Aviation Academy have been halted until the institutions meet some conditions that would qualify them to renew their certificates.

He however said the institutions were in the process of having their certificates renewed to enable them continue with the training. Vianey declined to reveal much but said some of the conditions focus on safety issues.

Russell Barnes, the director of Kampala Aeroclub flying school at Kajjansi said he is hopeful to have their certificate renewed soon before they could resume trainings. Meanwhile, Bernard Wandera, the acting director of the East African Civil Aviation Academy in Soroti recently told URN that the institution had never had a certificate but was in the process to acquire one.

The incident had disrupted flight trainings at the institutions leaving most of the students disgruntled. At the Soroti flying school the students recently threatened to stage a protest for the disrupted training program while others said they would sue the institution.
