Lightning has struck dead a 10 year old boy and injured critically his three siblings in Mubende district. The deceased has been identified as Sadat Nsereko, while the injured are Siad Nasimbwa, Shamirah Nakayiwa, and Anita Nakasinde all below ten years of age. They are all children of Burhan Busulwa and Sylvia Tushabe both residents of Kakijumba trading center in Nabingoola Sub County in Mubende.
Burhan Busulwa, the father to the lightning victims says that his son was hit dead by the thunderbolt on Tuesday evening following a heavy down pour. He says that he heard the children crying in their bedroom and rushed to check what was happening only to find Nsereko dead and his sisters critical condition. Busulwa explains that the injured children were rushed to Nabingoola Health Center, where they are battling for their lives.
A nurse at Nabingoola Health center, who spoke to URN on condition of anonymity, says two of the children are in critical condition. She says that they are considering transferring them to Mubende Hospital for better treatment and management.
Martin Okiria, the acting Criminal Investigations Officer Mubende district says that police carried out a postmortem on the body of the deceased and allowed his parents to bury his remains. He attributes the lightning strike to the absence of lighting arrestors on the house of their parents. About 70 people have been killed by lightning in several parts of the country since the beginning of this year.
