Voting for Uganda’s top fifty brands stops today at midnight ending three weeks of the Short Message System (SMS) means through which members of the public have been sending phone messages to a designated number to select their preferred brands in the country.
Sarah Nakibuuka Bakehena, the Public Relations manager of Private Sector Foundation Uganda told URN that over 100 companies have been nominated for the polling that begun three weeks ago. She explained that participation has however been restricted to those companies, which have operated in Uganda over the last ten years.
To vote their favourite brands or companies, voters type PSFU, which is an abbreviation for Private Sector Foundation Uganda followed by space then the company’s code, which is then sent to 8198.
She explained that only a single text message vote is only allowed for a particular company from a single phone number but added that the same number is allowed to vote for different companies.
Bakehena observed that competition has been stiff among the companies especially as voting draws to a close today. She it was important for government to recognize the companies for their contribution to the economy in areas such as creating jobs and revenue by paying taxes.
Already, some of the companies such as Nile Breweries have been sending text messages to potential individual members of the public requesting for their votes as an attempt to solicit more votes to emerge among the top fifty brands.
The top voted brands are to be awarded during a ceremony on August 16 at Hotel Africana.
Several companies ranging from aviation, telecommunications, beverage, construction, hospitality, banks and transport are in the race that is part of the activities to mark 50 years of Independence.
