George Kabagambe, the head teacher of Kabale primary school in Kabale municipality has come under fire from parents for renting out two classrooms to a church, leaving pupils to study under trees. Parents claim that they have been receiving reports from their children implicating Kabagambe for renting out two classrooms to In Ward Temples of God church. As a result, primary four pupils who are meant to use the classrooms have been studying under tree shades in the school compound. Louis Tibakaaba, a parent of the school says that his son told him that they studied under the tree shade up to the end of the second term.
Tibakaaba says that he didn’t take the claims of his son seriously until when he confirmed that the classes are occupied by a church. He appeals to the authorities to work closely with the parents to ensure the head teacher refunds the money he received from the church and evict it from the school premises. Nanny Nkoreki, another parent says that, she was shocked to learn that the head teacher had rented out two classrooms to the church leaving pupils to study under trees.
She says that they would have understood it if the head teacher had rented out the two classrooms during holidays, when the children are away. Dinah Kemigisha, another parent asks the Kabale Municipal Education office to move in and save the situation saying the administrators operate the school like it is a personal business. But George Kabagambe, the acting head teacher Kabale Primary school denies any wrongdoing and attributes the mess on the interdicted head teacher Frank Rwagara. He says the interdicted head teacher is in a better position to answer the concerns of the parents.
Frank Rwagara declined to comment on the matter when URN approached him saying that he was not involved in running the school. Mathius Akeeka, the acting Principal Education Officer Kabale Municipality told URN that he was not aware of the problem but has promised to work with the inspector of schools to do the needful. While Augustine Bujara, the town clerk Kabale Municipality says that he will investigate the claims by parents before taking appropriate action.
