Former Masaka LC footballer Meddie Kagere, who last year got Rwandan citizenship and also featured for the national team, has been signed by Tunisia’s top club Esperance.
According to information in Kigali, Tunisian premier league club Esperance Sportive de Zarzis signed striker Kagere, 26 for a two-year contract with the side.
The transfer fee is estimated at a total of 150,000 U.S. dollars, according to a statement issued by the Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa)
It is said that the Ugandan born striker is now ready to open a new page in his brilliant professional career, according to the same source.
Kagere is known to have made several Rwanda national-team appearances during the recently concluded Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup, and was rated as one of the top scorers during this regional tournament while playing for the Rwanda national football team also nicknamed "Amavubi".
Before signing a contract with the Tunisian club, Kagere had been recently a target for many clubs in the region including mainly Bidvest Wits FC (South Africa), Pretoria FC (South Africa), Gor Mahia (Kenya), St. George (Ethiopia) and the Rwanda's most successful military side APR Fc.
Kagere who also helped Police FC to second place in Rwanda’s Primus League last season was also among the Rwanda national team top scores as they finished second in the 2011 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. FUFA Vice President Mujib Kasule, who knows the player well, congratulated him upon his latest career milestone.
