A deep pothole has developed across the Hoima-Fort Portal road in Nyamakeisa village, Kiziranfumbi sub-county, rising concern among drivers and other road users.
The pothole developed about a month ago due to runoff water that has continuously washed away murrum leaving a deep horizontal gaping hole in the road.
Drivers say the pothole that started small has now deepened due to continuous water runoff.
Ahmed Kaahwa, a special hire driver, says if not sealed the pothole will cause accidents especially for those drivers who are not familiar with the road.
Kaahwa says as the porthole is near a stream vehicles may easily plunge into the water while trying to avoid the ditch.
The driver says he has asked the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to reseal the pothole before many people can lose their lives.
Charles Bizibu, another driver, wonders why UNRA has failed to fix the problem. He blames the body for poorly fixing the road.
The complaints follow an incident last Tuesday when a motorcyclist, Patrick Byamukama, died after he hit the pothole.
The drivers warn of more serious accidents if nothing is done. UNRA station engineer Jonathan Wazimbe was not in office when URN contacted him and his telephone was not on.
Government has promised to tarmac the Kyenjojo-Hoima-Kigumba road this financial year, although the road project has remained on paper for many years.
