A pre- retirement training course has been initiated at the Civil Service College in Jinja.
The new program that starts in September 2012 targets new entrants into the Public Service and those from the age of 45 years. It will be conducted in different areas of Uganda and at the civil service depending on the number of members who register to study.
Babra Waligo, director Civil Service College Uganda, says the training will entail course units that instill a saving culture among employees in the Public Service and an investment culture for those who have saved and are bound to retire 10 years from the recognized retirement age of 55 years in Uganda.

Cue out “…an investment culture.”//
At the end of the training, the civil servants will be awarded certificates of achievement.
The training will be conducted by civil service college specialists, with the help of invited tutors.
Fredrick Anyine, a tutor at the Civil Service College in-charge of leadership, management and development says the civil servants will be trained on how to budget their incomes, how to prioritize and reduce expenditure in order to save money.
Eraib Begumya, Jinja district Deputy Chief Administrative officer, says this comes as a boost to the Ministry of Public Service programme on the same which many civil servants did not benefit from because they missed it. With the new program at the Civil Service College, more civil servants will retire well financially.
Joy Kasowole, Assistant Town clerk Jinja central division says the program is good but even with the training, some civil servants need constant trainings and financial guidance.
Lawrence Kazooya, a former headmaster of Narambhai Primary School retired as a civil servant in 2010. He says the new pre- retirement training course will change civil servants expectations from putting all their hopes in the government’s retirement benefits alone. He says it will encourage them to think and plan ahead for themselves too.
