A Tanzanian fisherman has been confirmed dead after a boat he was sailing in capsized this Thursday morning on Lake Kijanbalola, a few kilometers to Lwakagala landing site in Rakai District. The dead man has been identified as John Ngonino.
His Ugandan counterpart only identified as Robert, a resident of Lwakagala fishing village, survived the ordeal and is receiving treatment at Kalisizo Hospital.
The chairman of the beach management unit for Lwakagala landing site, Ronald Kyabukasa said that the fishermen’s boat capsized at around 7 :30am as they were about to dock.
Kyabukasa attributed the accident to water leakage through various small holes which had developed in the in the boat.
He said that Robert managed to swim to the landing site but was found lying unconscious.
Rose Nabakooza, Rakai district Criminal Investigation Officer, confirmed the accident and said that John’s body had been recovered from the lake.
