The samples from two suspected Ebola victims from Mblae have both tested negative, easing the tension that had gripped health workers at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital where they have been admitted.

Dr. John Baptist Wanaiye, the Mbale District Health Officer, says the results of the blood samples released from the National Central Public Health laboratory in Entebbe on Thursday indicated that the suspects are free from the Ebola disease.

He says another patient who presented with the Ebola-like symptoms was admitted on Wednesday night at the isolation unit established for Ebola cases at the Mbale Hospital.

Tension was high among health workers at the Hospital on Wednesday after the two suspected victims were admitted there.

The health workers, who talked to Uganda Radio Network on condition of anonymity for fear of being victimized, claim they do not have protective gear to handle the hemorrhagic disease.

One of the suspects hailed from Magale in the neighboring Manafwa district while the other is a health worker from Budaka district.

Earlier, Dr. Wanaiye said the conditions of both suspects were improving and hoped they would be released soon.

He asked the public not to panic as the situation is under control. He says the Ministry of Health has dispatched a team of health officials to the district to help with the Ebola cases.

Dr. Wanaiye however warned the public to be vigilant and avoid crowded places and bodily contact among others.

At least 16 people have died since the latest outbreak of Ebola in Kibaale district last month.
