Thirty six rally drivers registered to compete in this weekend’s 4th edition of the Eastern Motor Rally have spent the whole week maneuvering the competitive 216 kilometre long route in Busoga region.
Peter Brown Kakaire, the head of Eastern Motor Club drivers, says the route is very safe for fast driving, there are not too many sharp corners along the road and the drivers will be very fast. He vows to complete the rally in less than three hours.

Viki Saini, of the Excel Rally Driving team after traversing the route on Thursday evening, said the route poses a challenge and will enable skilled drivers bring out their best in this year’s Eastern Motor rally Championship.

Lameka Mulwanyi, Clerk of Course Eastern Motor rally, says in a bid to enhance safety standards, they designed a route of seven sections around Jinja, Luuka and Kamuli districts. The longest section is 43.3 km from Nakabango to Namulesa, but rally cars are going to rotate three times in Lubanyi during the competitive section and the public should take precaution.

He says all safety measures have been taken and the drivers have gone through the route to master to the sections, topography and other features along the way.
Jas Mangat, leads Uganda Motor rally Championship standings with 283 points while Susan Muwonge, the defending champion gets to this weekend’s rally with 213 points in fourth.
Duncan Mubiru stands in third position with 235 points while Ronald Sebuguzi stands in second with 237 points. Rwandan Christakis Fitidis is in fifth position with 207 points. All the top five drivers can win this year’s national motor rally championship.
