The family of a slain Kiboga businessman is demanding the intervention of the Inspector General of Police Lt Gen Kale Kayihura in a bid to seek justice.
Henry Kayira, who was the proprietor of Namutidde Investments in Kiboga town and the agent of Mukwano group of companies in the district, was shot dead on July 10 this year at his home in Kiboga town council
Asuman Kasolo Mayanja, the NRM Chairperson Kapeke sub-county, was the next morning arrested in connection with the murder. Kasolo was however released on Police bond on Wednesday from Mpigi Police Station where he had since been detained.
The suspect was taken to Mpigi after residents turned wild threatening to storm Kiboga Central Police Station and lynch him. Although Kasolo has not yet returned to his home in Kiboga district following his release, the deceased’s family members are not happy.
On Friday Banabus Mushabe, one of deceased's relatives, told journalists that Kasolo’s release was a deliberate move to deny them justice.
Mushabe appealed for the intervention of IGP Kale Kayihura to ensure that the suspect is re-arrested and the case re-investigated.
He said releasing the suspect was likely to compromise investigations especially when Kiboga police is still in charge. Mushabe led the deceased's family members to address journalists in Kiboga town on Friday.
But Herbert Muhangi the Kiboga district police commander says as any other Ugandan, Kasolo has a right of release on police bond as investigations continue. Muhangi rubbished claims by family members that police were deliberately working against the case.
