The resident of Kekuubo cell, Nyabikoni ward, Central Division was arrested on Friday, August 17th. Arresting officers described him as a renowned drug dealer who has for years extended his business from Mbarara to Kampala and even across the border into Rwanda.
Police in Kabale district have netted their first harvest of an operation to clean the area of drug dealers and sellers. 29 year old Martin Twikirize, is in custody after being found in possession of a sack of marijuana in his home.

He was also found in possession of hundreds of rolls of marijuana ready for sale.
Elly Maate, the south –south western regional police spokesperson, said Twikirize based his operations around Kiyebe Parish in Ruhija sub-county, where hundreds of acres of the drug were recently destroyed by the police.

Police have for the last weeks been involved in an operation to put a stop to a growing trend of cultivating marijuana in Ruhija sub-county. Police were shocked to find whole village gardens given over to cultivating the illegal drug instead of growing food or cash crops for sale. a move that saw residents fleeing their homes due to fear of being arrested .
The police operation in Kiyebe village saw the entire population flee at the advance of the law enforcers who had come to educate the community about the illegality of their action.
Police resorted to uprooting and burning the drugs. Police later said that they had got reliable information that Ruhija is supplier of almost all the opium in western Uganda.
