The Anti-Ken Lukyamuzi faction of the Conservative Party has failed to block the party’s delegates’ conference slated for Sunday.
The breakaway faction led by the suspended secretary general Daniel Walyemera, had asked the court to block Sunday’s party delegates conference on grounds that there are pending court cases that would be rendered useless once the conference goes on.
Sunday’s conference is aimed at electing new party bearers including the party president. Lukyamuzi, who is the Rubaga South MP, is one of the candidates vying for the top seat.
In his brief ruling on Friday, High Court assistant registrar Eudes Kiterima, noted that it would not be prudent to block Sunday’s conference of such a magnitude as it could cause more confusion in the party.
Shortly after the ruling, Mr Walyemera said the ruling has even caused more confusion in the party. He described the ruling as vague and not addressing the issues that are causing party disharmony. He vowed to push on with court processes because the results of the delegates conference will not be registered.
He also noted that he will not attend the conference and he has not been invited.
The feud between Lukyamuzi and his suspended party secretary Walyemera stems from the alleged embezzlement of party funds by the latter.
