An unidentified UPDF soldier has shot a civilian dead in Bweramule sub-county, Ntoroko district.
The unnamed UPDF soldier is attached to Rwamabale Army Detach in Bweramule sub-county, Ntoroko district.
The deceased has been identified as Byamukama Muhereza (38), a resident of Rwamabale village in Bweramule sub-county.
The LCII chairman for Bweramule parish Clovice Byaruhanga says the incident occurred this Saturday morning at around 8:00am.
He said it all started on Friday night after a man only identified as Basara, son of late Kagwara of Kibuuku town council, stormed the home of his estranged wife Evans Kyabanyagi in Rwamabale village threatening to kill her. Basara had come armed with a machete.
The LC II chairman reports that Basara attempted to break down the door of his wife's house but failed.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, Kyabanyagi reported the matter to residents and local authorities. Basara was arrested shortly afterwards.
Upon arrest, the deceased Byamukama Muhereza attacked and started fighting Basara accusing him of attempting to murder his sister, Evans Kyabanyagi.
The residents turned rowdy and wanted to lynch Basara.
In an attempt to calm the situation, the UPDF soldier fired in the air. Unfortunately during a scuffle that ensued, Byamukama was shot in the head and died instantly.
Tthe UPDF soldier has been arrested and detained at Rwamabale Army barracks while Basara is detained Rweramule sub county police post.
The CID director Ntoroko Mr. Chemo Victor has confirmed the incident and said he was rushing to the army barracks to investigate, identify the suspected killer, and establish the cause of the fight.
However, a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Basara had long accused his wife of infidelity. He said this could have been the reason for his attempting to murder her.
