Kampala City Council Authority will this weekend start on redesigning the Entebbe road junction at Kampala road and the Shoprite junction to improve traffic flow.
According to documents seen, KCCA plans to carryout survey works to determine longitudinal profiles to determine the alignment of proposed intervention.
The letter sent to Regional Traffic Officer Kampala, KCCA observes that as traffic slopes from Kampala road there is an island that squeezes two lanes into one thereby impeding the smooth flow of traffic contributing to wider queue lanes.
The Regional Traffic Officer, Kampala, Lawrence Niwabine was happy that finally KCCA was moving to rectify the problem.
Niwabine says the slow movement of vehicles create a jam on Kampala road that extends to Ternan Avenue near Sheraton Hotel.

He added that there is need to remove the current entry and exit to Nakumatt supermarket because they are in a roundabout.
Niwabine wants the entry into the roundabout from Nakumatt removed so that vehicles exit through Wampewo Avenue to not to interfere with traffic flow at the roundabout.
The Kampala traffic boss wants even the entry to Centenary Park removed from Yusuf Lule road so that traffic flows freely.
Niwabine explained that there urgent need to widen the exit road towards the Mukwano factory to ease jam at the Mukwano round about.
He says the Mukwano roundabout is fed by the Sixth Street, Seventh streets, Eighth Street and Punjani round about. He says there is need to create another lane towards Mukwano factory to ease traffic flow.
Niwabine is also suggesting a no right turn for vehicles exiting both the Makerere University Main gate and the Eastern gate.
He says a right turn towards Nakulabye interrupts with traffic flow from Nakulabye towards Wandegeya and also causes vehicles from Wandegeya towards Nakulabye to slow down.

While a right turn at the Eastern gate interrupts traffic from Wandegeya to Bwaise and also vehicles from Bwaise have to stop.
Niwabine says a person exiting the Eastern gate should driver towards the roundabout at Kubiri and turn back towards Wandegeya.
Niwabine suggests that Main gate should be left as an entry for people from Nakulabye so that the Gate near the Faculty of Technology can be used as both an exit and entry for people from Nakulabye.
Police currently employs 500 traffic officers to direct traffic a thing he says is a function of KCCA instead of enforcing the law.
