Police has arrested a 26year old teacher who forged an identity card in the names of John Patrick Amama Mbabazi and opened a joint savings bank account in Crane bank.

Geoffrey Kimera, who is currently detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala, was arrested on Thursday at Crane Bank where he was called to check on the account.

While opening the account, Kimera whose passport says is an Education consultant presented the identity card which he purported was that of the Prime Minister.

The identity card had a portrait of the Prime Minister and deposited 50,000 shillings to open the account.

Kimera, a resident of Nansana, presented the documentation to a Crane bank official while opening the account who promised to get back to him after he had consulted.

After consultations it was agreed that Amama Mbabazi’s identity card was forged, the banker called Kimera who went to the bank and was arrested and handed to police.

Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, Ibn Senkumbi confirmed Kimera’s arrest. Senkumbi says Kimera is being held for forgery of the Prime Minister’s signature, identity card, and uttering a false document.

Senkumbi said the Prime Minister’s personal assistant was at CPS on Friday and picked a copy of an accompanying letter purportedly signed by the Prime Minister for Kimera to open the joint account.

However it not yet clear what Kimera wanted to use his alleged joint savings account with John Patrick Amama Mbabazi for.

But police suspect Kimera and his accomplices might have wanted to use the account to transfer money from the Prime Minister’s personal account without raising any suspicion since it was a join account.

Police is still investigating to ascertain claims that Kimera is a former teacher at Seroma High school.
