Fifty-eight year-old Mubarak Wambuku reportedly opened fire on Monday morning after he found his girlfriend, Sylvia Nambeso, with another man identified as Ali Nyago in the house.

Diana Nandaula, the Eastern regional police spokesperson says that after getting information that Nyago was in his girlfriend’s house at Adra Cell in Maluku, Wambuku picked a gun claiming that he was going for guard duty.

She says he went and knocked on the door and when he entered the house, he fired on the couple. Nyago died on the spot while Nambeso was rushed to Mbale regional referral hospital from where she died shortly after admission.

The bodies of the deceased are at Mbale Hospital Mortuary.

Nandaula said Wambuku was arrested in Busamaga about 4 kilometers away from the scene as he tried to flee. He is being held at Mbale Central Police Station.

The police spokesperson says preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had a conflict with Nyago over Nambeso who he claims to be his girlfriend.

She condemned Wambuku’s act saying he turned the gun against the people he is mandated to protect.
