Civil Society Groups Petition President Over Corruption

Civil society organizations have petitioned President Yoweri Museveni, to demand for action against corrupt officials in the Global fund saga.

The petition signed by over 20 civil society organizations, want the president to take tough action against ministers accused of abusing and misusing the global fund finances meant for the fight against malaria, HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis.

The lead petitioner, Beatrice Were of action Aid says that the ministers implicated by the global fund commission of enquiry should resign.

The petitioners have urged government to ensure that the global fund finances are controlled by people directly infected and affected by malaria tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.

The petitioners claim that corruption has become an endemic problem in Uganda, due to lack of a serious mechanisms, to fight against corrupt officials.
