Jinja Students Demostrate Over Defiler Teacher

News
Over 600 Students of Trinity College Buwagi have this evening demonstrated over one teacher in Buyala trading centre defiled and impregnated a senior one girl.
More than 600 students of Trinity College Buwagi in Buyala trading center in Jinja took to the streets on Tuesday evening to compel police to take action against a teacher accused of impregnating a minor. The defilement suspect is 28-year-old Abdullah Muyala, a teacher at Kabowa Progressive Primary School.

Isma Mbaziira, a student at Trinity College says that before impregnating the student Muyala would frequent their school pretending to be the head teacher of Kabowa Progressive Primary School. Mbaziira explains that they decided to storm the streets to compel police to arrest the teacher for defilement.

Stanley Mugoloza, a senior four students accused teachers in Buyala trading center of turning female students into their wives during holidays as many of them are from poor families. He said that some of the teachers force the students to come back to school from holidays under the guise of holiday tuition. Charles Balabye, Headmaster Trinity College Buwagi says that he received reports that Muyala was frequenting his school to sexually abuse young girls.

He says that the same teacher was arrested in July this year, when he attempted to rape a young girl in his house located in the trading center but she sounded an alarm that attracted residents. Balabye says that the teacher was detained at Buyala police station but released after spending a night in the police cells.

The head teacher says that he has written to Jonathan Musinguzi, the Jinja District Police Commander to take action against the accused.  Ayub Wabika, the Budondo sub county LC V councilor appeals to residents to desist from taking the law into their hands and instead report offenders to police.

Cue out “…value of education.”//

Budondo Sub County is affected by the high number of girl child school drop out rates because of early pregnancies. In 2011, 39 girls both in primary and secondary schools missed out on their final examinations because of early pregnancies.
