Activist Barbra Allimadi and 11 others have been arrested by Police in front of Parliament this Wednesday morning.

The activists had gone to demand for the immediate release of 40 'People Power' t-shirts that were confiscated by Police on Tuesday.  The t-shirts belonging to the Concerned Citizens activist group were seized at the National Theatre.

The activists had allegedly planned to put on the t-shirts in a show of support for Kasese Woman MP Winfred Kiiza who was sworn in for the second time on Tuesday, August 28 after winning the Kasese by-election. Police seized the t-shirts before the activists could go through with their plan.

Led by Allimadi, the activists stormed the Parliament gate at around 10am. Allimadi then proceeded to start reading a statement in front of the gate demanding for the t-shirts. The 30 minute protest slowed down traffic as other activists spilled into the road.

This prompted Parliament security to swing into action. The activists were herded into Police patrol vehicles and driven off to Central Police Station (CPS) for questioning.

Allimadi first came to public notice when she led a 'bra-protest' against Police brutality in April 2012. Allimadi and Happy Twinomugisha were demonstrating against a 20th April incident where a Police officer allegedly groped Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) women’s league leader Ingrid Turinawe's breast in the act of arresting her. She has since participated in a number of demonstrations under the Concerned Citizens pressure group.
