Ugandan players have a chance to play in the World Cup Woodball finals later on Friday in Malaysia.
The men and ladies singles second round resume after postponement due to heavy rain. The impressive Ugandan players have all finished among the top 50 out of 120 entrants from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Iran, Singapore and Vietnam. Uganda is the lone representative from Africa.
Namayo Mawerere, the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWBF) publicist, told URN that the entire Uganda team players stand a chance to make the finals after the second round. They include Shallot Kikatushemeza, who is leading the country's team table in 28th position overall with 136 strokes. She is closely being followed by Alexandria Namayo in 29th position with 137 strokes, Lilian Zawedde in 32nd with 139 strokes, Matrida Amuleni in 37th with 148 strokes and Danilah Nabukalu in 41st place with 168 strokes.
The country was represented by three men who include Onesmus Atamba in 27th position with 131 strokes from 24 gates, Jerry Wabuyu in 35th place with 136 and John Kateregga in 42nd position with 157 strokes.
In the women’s doubles, Alexandria Namayo paired with Lilian Zawedde to settle for 8th position overall after collecting 70 strokes in the finals played over 12 gates. The pair of Danilah Nabukalu and Shallot Kikatushemeza finished in 12 position on Wednesday. Chinese Taipei's Lee Shu Hun and Wu Chin Han won gold with 59 strokes in 12 gates.
The men's team of Atamba Onesmus and Jerry Wabuyu finished in 9th place with 72 strokes, while Hong Kong’s Wong Sin Kai and Ko Yun Tao were the winners.
