Mbale Land Board Chairman Faces Censure

Local government
He is accused of presenting a fake ‘O’ and “A” level certificate to the council for the approval of his appointment as district land board chairman.
Davis Wakane, the Mbale district land board chairperson is in trouble over forged academic documents. He is accused of presenting a fake ‘O’ and “A” level certificate to the council for the approval of his appointment as district land board chairman. The LC V councilors have petitioned the district speaker calling for the censure of Wakane.

In the petition tabled before council on Friday, the councilors also accused Wakane of presenting fake diploma certificate showing that he attended an Administrative Law course at Law Development Center yet it does not exist. The lead petitioner Alfred Namaasa, the LC V councilor Busiu Sub County says that diploma certificate signed by Joyce Werikhe is suspicious because she had left the center by May 21, 1986 when it was signed.

The councilors also claim that recently, Wakane was involved in the land wrangles when he attempted to grab the repossessed land that formerly belonged to National Forestry Authority and members of Bunabwanyi clan in Bunabwanyi, Bukasasa Sub County.

The affected community members dragged Wakane from his office and publically humiliated him.

The councilors accordingly want him censured from office and a lawful decision also taken against him to save the image, dignity and integrity of Mbale district council. Muhammed Mafabi, the District Council Speaker, referred the matter to the district committee of Planning, Finance and Administration for adequate investigation and subsequent advice to the district council. He gave the committee 14 days to report back to the council for action. Wakane has declined to comment on the matter arguing that it is under investigation,
