A second witness has started testifying in the Kizza Besigye treason case on Thursday, following the continued ill health of the first witness, Jennifer Aryem.
Aryem, who was last week accused of carrying radio transmission equipment in her headscarf, presented medical documents to High Court judge, Justice Vincent Kagaba to explain her inability to take the stand. The documents indicated that Aryem has problems with her ears, which will require her to undergo corrective surgery. According to the documents, Aryem might need to use hearing aids after the surgery.
This last revelation caused laughter in court. It brought back memories of claims by the defense lawyers that Aryem's large headscarves were used to hide a small ear piece through which she was fed answers from a source outside court.
Justice Kagaba excused Aryem from court to allow her to recover fully.
