Minister Akaki Gives Encroachers 3 Months to Leave Mt. Elgon Game Park

News
The State Minister for Tourism, Jovino Ayumu Akaki has issued a three-month ultimatum to encroachers to vacate Elgon national game reserve land in Sironko, Manafwa and Mbale districts.

Akaki issued the ultimatum Friday afternoon while meeting with political leaders from Bugishu at Mbale district headquarters.

Akaki said its suicidal for the Ugandan government to allow encroachers to destroy Elgon conservation park yet it has been listed to be managed jointly by the three East African countries.

Akaki warned politicians against inciting their constituents to occupy the game park saying that continued cutting of trees would cost several lives through landslides in areas like the proposed Manjiya district.
