Suspected Killer of Mbale assistant Works Engineer Charged With Manslaughter

A Police Constable who is accused of shooting dead the Mbale district Assistant Works engineer, Jimmy Byabashaiza, has been charged with manslaughter.

Court presided over by Mbale Chief Magistrate, Muse Musimbi, on Thursday heard that Charles Mandu attached to Mbale Central Police Station unlawfully killed Jimmy Byabashaiza.

Byabashaiza was killed last week at Mbale Central Police Station counter where he had allegedly gone to report that his life was in danger.

Mandu however pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted a cash bail of 100, 000 shillings and his surety of 500,000 shillings not cash.

He will re-appear in court on June 6th.

The Mbale district Chief Investigative officer, Isaac Oketcho, says that the other policemen who were on duty will appear before a Police disciplinary committee.
