Parliament has passed a motion to amend the Rules of Procedure of the 8th Parliament to urgently constitute the committees on Appointments and Rules, Privileges and Discipline.
The Appointments committee is supposed to vet the Cabinet, which the President is expected to announce any time while and the committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline is supposed to start scrutinizing the Rules of Procedure which are going to govern the 8th Parliament.
The motion, which was presented by former deputy Attorney General, Adolf Mwesige, sought to spell out the number of MPs who are supposed to serve on the Standing Committees and their membership. Clause 127 (4) was amended to take into consideration the interests of the Independent Members of Parliament in the house who were complaining that the Rules did not catered for them.
Former Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Hope Mwesige says all the Standing Committees will have 20 members instead of 15 and the majority party, NRM will take most seats. The committees will be constituted this Friday and start work next week.
