Government threatens to get rid of lazy, corrupt and incompetent civil servants.
The local government minister, Kahinda Otafiire, says that the new initiative is aimed at ensuring effective delivery of services to the people.
He says that government programs have in the past been greatly affected by civil servants who are bent on fulfilling their own personal aspirations at the expense of the public.
Speaking to District chairpersons and chief Administrative officers at Lake View Hotel in Mbarara, the minister said that inefficient civil servants should either accept their weaknesses and work purposefully towards improving their abilities, or get out of the public service and make way for properly motivated individuals.
He warned that any civil servant who is not ready to cooperate with the elected political leaders to transform the lives of people should resign rather than be embarrassed by dismissal.
Kahinda noted that getting rid of inefficient civil servants could speed up policy implementation and improve the lives of ordinary people.
