Rain Washes Away the Only Road to Bukwa District

News

Torrential rains have washed away the only road leading to the new eastern Uganda district of Bukwa.

Residents of Bukwa are forced to access the rest of the country by traveling to Kitale in Western Kenya and connecting to Uganda through Rwakaka border post in Manafwa district. Those who cannot afford the high transport costs for this journey have to walk for 80 kilometers to Kapchorwa town.

The LC5 chairperson of Bukwa, Reuben Chelimo, says residents of the district are facing numerous challenges because of the state of the road. He says several people have died because they cannot access good health facilities outside Bukwa.
