Environmental degradation is the major factor in the receding levels of Lake Victoria, according to environmentalists.
Frank Muramuzi, the executive director of the National Association of Professional Environmentalists, says most people think drought is the only cause in the low lake levels. Muramuzi says environmental degradation is taking a higher toll on the level of Lake Victoria.

In addition to forest and wetland degradation, Muramusi says pollution is also a significant problem. He says the environmental degradation is not easily reversed.
