Mbale Drivers Threaten To Strike Over Park Sale

News
Truck drivers in Mbale town have threatened to demonstrate against the planned sale of their parking yard to a private investor.

Some truck drivers say the proposed sale of the parking yard along Naboa road in Mbale town is unacceptable, because they were not given prior notice about the impending sale.

The drivers argue that they are not ready to vacate the park because its location has been ideal for their nature of business.

The Mbale Municipal Council town clerk, Kenneth Waniaye Katuli, admits that his office has received a business proposal from two Asian businessmen who want to buy the park and turn it into a shopping mall. He however says the council is still scrutinizing the proposal.

Waniaye says that the council will not hesitate to sell off the park to any investor who can boost revenue for the town council.
