Civil Aviation Authority lacks equipment to control birds

The wildlife control officer at Entebbe international airport Baale Luyinda has disclosed that the bird hazard unit at the airport lacks modern equipment to control the various species of birds at the airport.

Baale said that birds are the major cause of accidents, which result from the collisions in the air.

The bird hazard control unit was established in 1998 to proactively ensure safety of aircraft operations, using modern techniques for bird hazard control at airports.

Luyinda said that with the establishment of the Bird Hazard Unit in 1998 safety of aircrafts as they land and take off has improved
