Hoima Town Council Speaker Accused of Corruption

News
The Hoima town Council Speaker, Jackson Namanya, is in trouble for corruption.
According to Francis Atugonza, the Hoima Town Council LC3 chairperson, Namanya has been conniving with some councillors to extort money from the local business community. He claims that Namanya has threatened the businessmen with the demolition of their premises if they don't pay him to sabotage a Council resolution to knock down all illegal and old structures in Hoima town.
Namanya has openly opposed the demolition. On Tuesday, during an impromptu Council meeting he convened, some councillors agreed to overturn the resolution.
Atugonza wants Namanya to explain his actions and has vowed investigate the matter.

Atugonza says the speaker has lost a sense of direction and that he needs guidance on how to handle public matters.

Namanya denies the extortion claims. He maintains that the decision to demolish old structures is unrealistic because it will affect struggling small businesses the most.
