Parliament Approves Judicial Service Commission Appointments

News
Parliament on Wednesday approved the appointment of five members to the Judicial Service Commission.
The Appointments Committee chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, approved Justice Cosmas Matongo, Peter Jogo, Henry Kyemba, Fred Sempebwa and Bart Katurebe.
The committee however noted that the new appointments were characterized by gender and religious imbalance. Committee members wondered why there was only one woman and no Muslim appointed to serve on the commission.
Meanwhile, the appointment of the commission's vice chairperson, Esther Mayambala, has been put on halt because she was reportedly out of the country.
The Judicial Service Commission is responsible for preparing and planning programs for the dissemination of information about public law and administration of justice to judicial officers.
The committee has also approved the appointment of Aston Kajara as the new Minister for Karamoja affairs.
