Shimoni Demonstration School members of staff have petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi seeking new terms and conditions of service if their school is shifted.
The school is to be relocated to East Kololo Primary School to give way for a modern hotel to be built by Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Alsaud, rated the world's fifth richest man. Government has instructed the school to relocate by 15th December.
Handing over the petition to Sekandi, the Coordinator of the school's Management Committee, John Bagashasha said the teachers have been housed within the school premises saving on rent, transport costs and providing convenient access and availability for duty.
Bagashasha said that if the school is relocated to Kololo, this will increase the staff's costs of living, which are not catered for in their salaries. He told Sekandi that teachers want their salaries increased if the school is to be relocated, to cover the new costs. Bagashasha said if the terms are not revised, it will impact negatively on the school's academic performance and the lives of all those involved.

To avoid similar interruptions in future, the petitioners proposed that the school land should be registered in the names of the management committee of the school.
Shimoni Demonstration School is the biggest Universal Primary Education School in Kampala catering for more than 3400 pupils.
