Security Tightened In Buliisa District

Election
Security has been tightened in Buliisa district ahead of the Parliamentary and local government elections tomorrow.

The Acting Resident District Commissioner, Hussein Matanda, says he has received reports that some politicians from the neighboring Masindi district have pitched camp in Buliisa and planning to stir chaos if their candidates are not elected.

Anti-election squads have been deployed across the district to secure the district from any forms of violence. Matanda has warned that his office will not tolerate acts of lawlessness.

Fred Lukumu of the National Resistance Movement will tussle it out with his rival Wandera Atuhairwe, who is standing as an independent candidate.

Several people expect chaos from Atuhairwes camp if he does not make it to parliament. Atuhairwes has support from most politicians from Masindi district, including Steven Birija, whose supporters are known for chaos.

The NRM chief whip Matsiko Kabakumba, Internal affairs minister- Matiya Kasaija and the Second Deputy Premier, Muganwa Kajura, are in Buliisa to oversee the elections.
