Police at Entebbe International Airport have arrested a Tanzanian citizen for drug trafficking.
Sayik Ely Iboue was arrested shortly after he arrived in Entebbe aboard a United Emirates flight. He was found with about one kilogram of heroine pellets worth 40 million shillings.
The Airport Commandant, Herman Owomugisha, said the police haven't yet established whether Iboue was on transit to Tanzania or of Entebbe was his final destination. He has been detained at the airport police cells pending an investigation.
Owomugisha said Entebbe International Airport is still a popular transit route for international drug traffickers. He attributed this to the fact that law Enforcement at the airport is focused more on security issues, not on the anti-narcotics campaign.
