Parliament Halts Passing of 2006/2007 Budget Final Figures

News
Parliament has halted the passing of this year's financial budget.
The Members of Parliament argued that Ministry of Finance has not followed the correct budget procedure of presenting the Appropriations Bill to Parliament for consideration before the budget can be approved. The Appropriations Bill is a summary of all the reconciled figures budgeted for by the various government departments.
The Chairperson of the Budget Committee, William Oketcho said that passing the final budget figures without the Appropriations Bill figures, Parliament would be passing figures that are conflicting with the ones the committee recommended.

The deputy Attorney General, Fredrick Ruhindi however wanted the House to pass the final budget figures saying that this was a historical problem which had to be addressed by reviewing the entire budget process in future but was not successful.
