Circumcision Suspended in Busiu -Mbale

News
Circumcision in Busiu sub-county, Mbale district has been suspended for interrupting school activities.

During a security meeting convened on Wednesday, local leaders unanimously agreed that circumcision rituals be suspended until December.

The suspension follows concerns that the exercise had disrupted normal school routine because many students were dropping out of school to participate in the cultural circumcision rites.

The Busiu LC III chairperson, Nelson Wamanga, says his office has received numerous complaints about poor attendance and performance in schools during the Imbalu season.

He also says many young girls take the advantage of the season to run away from their homes and get married.

The local leaders have warned that any surgeons found performing the circumcision rituals will be penalized and have their licenses withdrawn.
